One of the attractions and places which needs to be visited while you are in Nagoya is Nagoya Planetarium.
Located just next to Shirakawa park, the huge globe-like planetarium is incredible with its appearance, which opened in 2010 and whose dome measures 35 meters in diameter.
It was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest planetarium in 2011.
Latest technologies such as the Universarium Model IX planetarium (optical planetarium) and the Skymax DSII (digital planetarium are used to show an endless starry sky. Inside of it, you will find yourself in an environment where you can relax as if you were truly amid nature has been created with natural sound effects as you leisurely view the starry sky from your seats.

There are four types of major exhibits at the museum: the planetarium, the Science & Technology building where many exhibits regarding energy and scientific technology are on display, the Life Sciences building where you can learn about the human body and life, and the interactive displays.
So, start with, there is Water Plaza where there are plenty of ways from which you can learn regarding the quality of water on the Earth. Then, there is Tornado Lab where you can witness an air vortex that soars as high as 9 meters. Furthermore, there is Electric Discharge Lab where you can see actual fireworks of electricity through violent discharges. And finally, there is Deep Freezing Lab where you can experience freezing temperatures of -30 degrees and view an aurora. Additionally, at Life Sciences Building and the Planetarium, experimental classes are held on a monthly basis where you can actually experiment with the peculiarities of both human body and space.

After being renovated, the new planetarium was opened with a diameter of 35 meters. It breaks the previous record held by Ehime Prefectural Science Museum by 5 meters. The planetarium boasts a new projector equipped with fiber optics that can show up to sixth-magnitude stars.

It's not just its size that is spectacular, but also the programs presented which change every month. Using CG that the curators tell stories in detail about general star myths, astronomical phenomena, expansion of space, the black hole...and beyond.
The screening equipment are world-class, and they are well known for its beautiful images too.

Lying down on the reclining chairs, you can immerse yourself into the night sky and stars.
The planetarium has about six shows a day, but the tickets for all shows are sold from 9:30 am. It often gets sold out on weekends and vacation period. If you want to see the show for sure, it might be better to go to the museum at 9:30 and buy a ticket beforehand.

Just for your information, busy season of the year are: the end of March to the beginning of April when children have spring breaks, Golden Week which is from the end of April to the beginning of May, summer break which is from the end of July to mid-August, and at the end and beginning of the year.

The planetarium ticket is 800 yen, including the exhibition and from 2014, an English audio guide has also started which is friendly for foreigners. If you download an app onto your smartphone, you can get an explanation in English for a part of the exhibits within the museum.
