Vaccination for 2017-2018 seasonal influenza has become available since the beginning of October.

Usually in Japan, the infection rate shows gradual increase starting from November and the trend gets accelerated in December, then January through February marks the peak of the epidemic period.

Getting flu shot is widely encouraged in Japan to prevent the spread of infection and subdue the symptoms of the disease.

Many hospitals and clinics offer flu shot. Fee for the shot varies, but it is usually 3,000JPY-5,000JPY per shot.

While adult need only one dose of vaccine, children under 13-year-old are recommended taking 2 doses with an interval of 4 weeks.

Reservation is usually required, so it is advisable to contact your local medical facilities to check availability first.

Please note that flu vaccination is "voluntary treatment" which is not covered by National Health Insurance.

On the other hand, many companies offer vaccination subsidy, it would be best to check with your HR department beforehand.
