Toyota city?

  •      Have you ever heard that there is a city named Toyota in Japan?
         Well, we all know Toyota Motors Corporation, which is very well known for its brand car “Toyota”. However, not many people know that there is an industrial city on the east side of Nagoya city (Aichi Prefecture), central Japan.
         Until 1959, the area was named Koromo, but to reflect the importance of the area`s major employer, the name of the city was changed to Toyota city. Since then, this city has developed a lot, and now has its status today. Toyota is a sister city of Derby, UK, where Toyota has a factory and of Detroit, USA.
         Today, the biggest number of foreigners living in Toyota city are Brazilian and other South American immigrants of Japanese descent who have come to the area to work in Toyota's car factories and other associated industries.
    Although, Toyota city does not appear in many tourists guide books about Japan, it has a large number of foreign workers working in Toyota group companies (including factories) and doing researches at different facilities.
  •      People who know Toyota city as an industrial area, also know that it actually has its attractions, number of interesting museums. These include the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art (15-minute walk from Toyota city station), the city's premier museum, with a number of modern art exhibits and installations as well as contemporary buildings and structures.
    Another Toyota Kaikan Museum showcases Toyota company's latest products and displays a history of the Toyota company. This is one of the main reasons to have a large number of visitors, who can get inside the cars to feel the history and technology progress. A number of video displays and panels demonstrates Toyota's production process and the safety features in Toyota cars.
         The other attractions located in Toyota city are Toyota City Museum of Modern Industry & Living (free admission), which exhibits machinery once used in the silk industry and recreates typical tatami-rooms from the Meiji Period, Toyota City Folk Craft Museum (free admission), with many exhibition halls that display Japanese arts and crafts. There is also a Toyota Industrial Culture Center (Toyota Sangyo Bunka Center) near Shin-Toyota Station is great for children. It introduces children basic science through play, with a planetarium. It also offers a number of community activities and classes including language, dance and yoga classes.
         Toyota city is also famous for hot springs (onsen) as well as hotels, and what we call “monthly apartments”, close to both Toyota city station.

The next day, on Sunday you can see and enjoy f dancing people dressed up in different costumes and lots of fireworks. The fireworks take place along the banks of the Yahagi River near Toyota Stadium, and lasts about two hours with about 10,000 fireworks.
  •      Toyota city is somehow busy place, with a department store, different shops, restaurants, supermarket, city hall, bank, show pubs, Toyota stadium and more.
